TIME SPELL
the series of “Time Spell” compositions are an attempt to cast a spell on time by changing its apparent linear structure and demonstrating that time also moves in multiple directions
each composition is a “spell” of time – a musical moment to reflect on what time is while moving through different forms of time, and also standing completely still in no-time
TIME SPELL 1 (2010)
composed for Rozemarie Heggen – solo double bass
TIME SPELL 2 (2012)
composed for Slagwerk Den Haag
a complex hypnotic polyrhythmic structure is created using simple isorhythm units in a non-linear repetitive way, like a repeated “spell”
as the piece evolves the three percussionists each move from the “outside” as individual players in time, gradually moving “inside” to a central point out-of-time where they fuse into one continuous tonal sound
